Buc-ee’s Must Try Snacks

I have wanted to visit a Buc-ee’s for about 2 years now. You might be wondering, why would you want to visit a gas station so badly? Well, they currently hold TWO world records-

  1. The Worlds Largest Convenience Store

  2. The Worlds Longest Car Wash

But, they are also known for their BBQ (yes, at a gas station), clean restrooms (they indeed are), tons of gas pumps and endless walls of delicious snacks. It is overwhelming when you walk into one of these stores! I was lucky enough to finally try out Buc-ee’s on my way home from Florida last week. The beaver has expanded beyond Texas and Alabama to Georgia and Florida. There is one right off of 75 just outside of Macon. How could I not stop? Here is my list of must try snacks at Buc-ee’s.

  1. The Chopped Brisket Sandwich

This is hysterical to me because I never thought I would be excited to try a gas station BBQ, but here I am recommending it to you lovely readers. No this is not a joke! The meat is cooked to perfection, the BBQ sauce is beautiful, and the bun is the perfect vehicle for the brisket. Let me dive into the BBQ sauce further. I wish I went back in to buy more of that magical beaver BBQ sauce. It had the perfect balance of tang and heat. Yes, this is not something I am used to experiencing with BBQ. But, I need more of it in my life. It wasn’t ‘start your mouth on fire’ (I’m looking at you Fry The Coop) kind of heat, but just a tingle on the lips while you’re eating. The other benefit, no Texas sized lines to get your hands on this sandwich. The portions are Texas sized and won’t break the bank. Trust me on this one.

2. Beaver Nuggets

No, I have not resorted to eating food intended for animals. These are in their own magical category of snacks and knock the rest out of the park. Imagine a Cheeto without the cheese dust all over it and roll the plain puffs in Garrett’s caramel corn coating. This is a heavy snack, so one bag will last you a few days.

3. Candied Pecans

When you walk into Buc-ee’s you are greeted by two smells. The BBQ and then the candied pecans hit you. You can watch them make all of the different candied nuts and it is mesmerizing. That might be how they hypnotize you into spending all of your money. Who knows. But, I do know these are worth the money and at this point, probably a stomach ache.

4. Fudge

At this point, I hope you understand that Buc-ee’s is not your average gas station. If you still need convincing, they have a JUMBO fudge counter. They offer 24 different varieties of fudge including birthday cake and pecan. These are also hefty portions, so choose wisely! I also found out that truck-stop fudge has its own cult following. Anything to do with road trips and being a road trip warrior is fine by me.

5. Beaver Chips

I am a complete sucker for anything with that beaver on it, but these beaver chips were a nice compliment to the BBQ brisket sandwich. Since the sandwich was so massive, there definitely wasn’t room for a full bag of fries. These nice airy, light, fried slices of potato make a nice road trip snack.

I still have so much to try at Buc-ees, but until my next road trip (Christmas?), this is where my list ends! New locations are popping up left and right. I would love to be able to strictly stop at Buc-ees on my road trips. No more dirty restrooms, a large variety of good food, jumbo sodas for $0.79 and not waiting to pump gas. Sign me up!
