I Love Brush Pens…I Suck at Using Them
I am currently using a Pentel Pigment Ink Brush (pictured below). It truly is a wild animal and takes some getting used to! The results are incredible even if I have no clue what I am doing. The line variety and smoothness of the brush against the paper is remarkable. I have gotten better at using it, but I am not a gentle giant. I am a bit aggressive with my pens and markers. To be fair I was using Micron and Copic brush pens. To achieve a fat inky line with those you practically have to dig it into the table you are drawing on.
I have plans to make a trip to my favorite place in the whole wide world…Blick on Monday. I want to pick up a bunch of brush pens and figure out which one is best for me. It might end up being the Pentel Pigment Brush pen, but who knows? My one issue with the pen is having to squeeze the barrel to get ink down into the bristles. I guess that is better than dipping into an ink bottle every 10 seconds. I am always afraid massive amounts of ink are going to come splashing out and ruin whatever I am working on.
Another minor issue I have the current brush pen is more of a user error, but trying to get super fine lines and in-between medium lines is difficult for me. I know it has to do with how I sit and draw, but gosh darn it help me out pen! I am merely an amateur illustrator. If you have a preferred brush pen, lemme know! I’ll add it to my ever growing list of pen experiments.
