You can try and argue a better trio than this, but you CAN’T. Salty crunchy pecans enrobed in warm gooey Carmel all topped off with the worlds most basic sweet treat…chocolate. Why stop at just making turtles (Pixies for Fannie Mae fans), when you can make everything turtle. Ice cream, cookies, cake, and brownies are all experiments I’ve tried and have all worked out.
I tried out a Turtle Cookie recipe and enjoyed it immensely. The only thing I would change next time would be just to use caramel sauce. The caramel bits I used were good, but the ones on the bottom caramelized and were super sketchy when it came to chomping down on one.
I had a similar issue when I tried out brownies. This time my fix would be to not mix in the turtle toppings and just add them on top. I forgot I wasn’t dealing with cookies and it was inevitable the caramels would sink to the bottom and caramelize into a slightly hard tooth breaking candy. Otherwise I loved em. I used Mark Bittman’s brownie recipe and added pecans and caramel to the recipe. These are chocolatey enough already, so I didn’t add more.
