Luca: Pixar’s Best Film Since Coco

Let me say it again for those of you in the back…Luca is PIxar’s best film since Coco. I LOVE animated films, shows, and shorts. They’re my favorite. It is mind boggling to watch something people spent years creating on computers and it all started with an idea and sketches. It has also been amazing to see the quality of animated films improve exponentially over my lifetime. I remember seeing Toy Story 4 in the theaters and my jaw dropped when I saw the rainy scene with Bo Peep and Woody under the car. The reflections bouncing off the water on the ground and the droplets falling are absolutely incredible.

Now I am going off track! Back to Luca. This was such a heartwarming movie that reminds you of summers as a kid. Anything was possible and there wasn’t a worry in sight. No school, no homework, not a thing. Pixar almost goes back to its roots of storytelling and leaves the abstract story behind for a bit (seen with Soul and Onward) and sticks with a straightforward concept. Something we all could use a lesson on- making sure not to hide who you truly are from the world. In the current times, I think this was exactly what the world needed. I am upset this did not get a chance in the theaters, but I am glad Disney did not charge a premium to see it on release day. It would have been a disservice to this beautiful piece of art.

I just need to talk about the animation for a moment. While this film did not push the limits of Pixar’s abilities, you can not deny it is a beautiful film. The textures of the hair and clothes are incredibly detailed and you can almost ‘feel’ them in your head. The colors, lighting, and water are on point. I have also enjoyed all of the promotional material. I was in Disney World last week and I don’t think they are pushing it enough! Anyways, this is a must see film so be sure to steal a Disney+ password from someone if you don’t have an account.
