My Obsession with Jazz

It’s been awhile, but I’m back! I wasn’t sure what direction I wanted to go with my blog, so I decided to let it sit and simmer for a bit. Read on for more jazz and shenanigans.

I discovered the wonderful genres of Jazz, Bebop, and Big Band back in 2015 when Fallout 4 dropped. The soundtrack for that game is FLAWLESS. Give it a listen if you’d like to dabble in the best of the 1940’s and 1950’s. Anyway, this has led to multiple rabbit holes of finding new songs, artists, and albums. My most recent playlist has got to be the best of the best. It has a large variety of style and moods and I love listening to it while I am driving home from work. It is also phenomenal for creative work. Break out pencil and paper and go to town my friends.

Jazz was not a genre I listened to before my 500+ hour deep dive into the world of Fallout. This was a mistake of mine. EVERYONE should listen to jazz. People are always looking for productivity hacks and certain music to help them concentrate….well throw on Miles Davis and you’re set for the day. You don’t need lo-fi beats or classical! You need JAZZ dammit! There is something about the saxophone wailing in the background as you try and finish something important. I’m not quite sure what it is yet, but I don’t really care. I crush my work and feel good about it.

I am going to work on transferring my playlist to Spotify so it is easier to share, but here are some artists to check out if you want to dabble in the scene.

  • Miles Davis

  • Duke Ellington

  • Art Blakey

  • John Coltrane

  • Charles Mingus

  • Stanley Turrentine

Let me know if you have any songs/artists you like! I am always looking to expand my library.
