The Two Most Important Things To Me

I am glad I realized my priorities as early as I did. You might be thinking, the two most important things have to be wealth and happiness…or some other combo people assume is what we should all want out of life. Yes, money is important in this world, but I believe there are two very important things we should strive for in life that most people do not even think about.

Time and Freedom.

Yes. These are the most important things to me right now. Time is a finite resource we have. We actually don’t even know how much of it we have. Then you have freedom. That is the ability to live comfortably and do the things that make you happy. These two go hand in hand. Being smart with your time and priorities will lead you to freedom.

I recently watched the Minimalism documentary on Netflix and they mention ‘lifestyle creep’. We all want to make more money in life, but once you hit a certain point it isn’t increasing the quality of your life. It may be dragging down your quality of life. A bigger house, a more expensive car, constantly buying things we don’t need to impress people we don’t like. Do you actually need/want these things? Could you trade some of this ‘lifestyle creep’ in for more time to work on things that make you happy or even the option of freedom. Not everyone hates their job, but having the option to leave is nice.

I guess what I am trying to say is happiness is a result of achieving these two things. It is no easy feat, but I think worth the time and energy you must put in up front. I’m still working hard to retire in the next 10-15 years. That is a long ways away, so who knows what I’ll be doing. I might already be doing something I love and won’t need to plan for this. But, just in case that doesn’t happen, the option to do so is there.

Sitting and creating all day is what makes me the happiest. I have so many crazy ideas in my noggin, I have to get them out and share them with people. Next time you are going to buy something, why are you buying it? Just some food for thought.
